Lake Atitlan tomorrow

Filed under: Uncategorized — samanthabass @ 12:13 am

The school set up a conferance on Mayan Cosmology this afternoon. Two Mayan priests spoke with us about the calender, numerical systems, 2012, shift in consciousness, etc…

I´m really excited about the subjunctive conjugation. My teacher and I have been using it a lot lately. Spanish has a separate conjugation for all verbs that refer to ideas, there´s no similar conjugation in English. The indicative is only for facts. The structure of the Spanish language requires that you indicate if a thing is an idea or a fact, exists or doesn´t exist.

La casa es rojo. (the house is red, indicative, fact)

Yo creo que la casa sea rojo. (I think the house is red, subjunctive, idea)

Tomorrow we´re going to Lake Atitlan for our free weekend. There´s a Mayan holiday Saturday that celebrates the creation of the earth. The whole country will be celebrating.
