Two days

Yesterday after class one of our professors spoke with our group about his experience as a civilian during the conflict. He shared stories of narrowly avoiding military recuitment three times, and talked a bit about how the conflict influenced daily civilian life.

My host-dad is celebrating his birthday next week, so last night we had a mini-fiesta. One of his friends came over and we all ate hotdogs, ordered in Dominos, drank Pepsi and listened to Michael Jackson. It was real fun. My host-siblings are reintroducing me to Linkin Park and Marilyn Manson.

Today we met with a businessman in Xela and chatted about world financial systems, development, culture, cell phones, etc.

My Spanish teacher showed me the website for Guatemala´s Ministry of Culture. There´s a link that will tell you your Nahual when you plug in your birthday. Mayans believe that people have specific energies determined by date of birth. These energies correspond to an animal or other type of thing, your Nahual.
